Human-Centered
Design Laboratory
LAB brochure front,
back
HCD LAB is a state of the art
labolatory for Research and Development, design, user testing,
prototyping, and learning activities. The lab has multipurpose
functions which are media lab, ergonomic study, user observation,
usability testing, interaction design, and environmental interfaces.
This lab provides design service for industries who have demand
of testing their products before launching them to the market.
The main function of this lab is to test users' behavior with
a wide range of products from software, hardware, service, system,
and environment. The Lab also provides the most challenging experience
in design with the prototyping of both software and hardware
zones. The lab will be ready for operation by December, 2004.
Hardware & Software Implementation
The lab provides tools for hardware
implementation with microcontroller and software. As a result,
researchers or designers can design a testing tool or products
that demonstrate how their design works.
Usability Testing
With the concept of human behavior,
the subject of testing will be observed through the one way mirror.
Subjects are asked to use the product and being recorded in the
video. A software will be used to collect data and analyze the
human behavior.

We use a Nolus software is mainly
used for behavior observation, usability testing, cultural testing,
and psychological observation. The software can be used to record
data in the video format and analyze the data in term of Lag
sequence, Statistic, and Time-event.
Ergonomic Testing
We provide tools and method for
testing an ergonomic. With the cooperation with the medical field,
the integration in innovation will be a combination between design
and human factors.

EMG is used to detect the muscle
reaction. We use it to test how muscle works with the product
such as the fatigue of sitting on the chair.
Environmental Interface
The environment surrounded human
is another factor that we concentrate. By analyzing the human
behavior and environment such as lighting, designers could know
how human behaves in different kinds of environmental setting.

Laundary cart testing - This
is an observation to see how users interact with the product
especially the way to transport the laundary cart. Click the

Office space testing - The testing
is done by interior design students. They arrange the space with
white tables to study the office space. Click the image to see
